Defect

Moisture may enter the diesel fuel filter heater at the electric contacts. (Note: The diesel fuel filter heater unit only operates at tempratures below -1° Celcius.)

Hazard

Electrical short-circuits may occur in the area of the electric contacts of the fuel filter heater. This may result in the short-term discharge of the starter battery and the vehicle will no longer start. In unfavourable circumstances, a short-circuit in the fuel filter heater may also lead to an engine fire when the vehicle is switched off.

Remedy

Consumers should contact an authorised BMW motor vehicle service centre, or call the BMW Group Australia Customer Interaction Centre on freecall: 1 800 813 299.
