The power steering return line may fail due to incorrect routing of the power steering cooling line. Should this condition occur, it may result in a sudden drainage of power steering oil and a loss of power steering assistance. Since this may appear suddenly and without any relevant warnings to the driver, this condition poses an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety.
In the worst case scenario, if this condition were to occur, there is the possibility of the power steering fluid igniting, which could lead to an engine bay fire.
Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by letter. Owners are advised to contact their authorised Volvo dealer to have power steering cooling line correctly routed and replaced if necessary.
