Category: Light Vehicle ยท Supplier: Toyota Motor Corporation Australia Ltd
Recall date: 26 October 2010
During vehicle assembly, Toyota brake fluid contains polymers that act as a lubricant for certain brake system components. If the replacement brake fluid used has insufficient polymers, the brake master cylinder rear rubber seal may become dry and curl during brake application.
If the defect occurs, a small amount of brake fluid could leak from the rear of the brake master cylinder resulting in a low brake fluid level and illumination of the brake warning light. If the vehicle is operated in this condition, the brake pedal feel could change, and eventually braking performance could begin to gradually degrade.
All owners of affected vehicles will receive a Recall Notification Letter. Owners are advised to contact their authorised Toyota Dealership for inspection and replacement of the rear rubber cup of the brake master cylinder.
