Category: Light Vehicle · Supplier: BMW Australia Ltd
Recall date: 3 May 2016
Due to an error in the manufacturing process of the supplier, small metallic particles (stamping residue) can stick to the inside of the airbag control unit housing.
In case of excessive acceleration, for example in a crash, the particle might lift from the housing and could cause a short circuit and reset the airbag control unit. This could increase the risk of injury to the occupants in the event of an accident requiring airbag activation.
Consumers should contact an authourised BMW motor vehicle service centre, or call the BMW Group Customer Interaction Centre on freecall: 1 800 813 299.
