Defect

Due to a manufacturing issue, the side curtain airbags may be fitted with a faulty gas generator. As a result, the airbag may not deploy as intended.

Hazard

In the event of airbag deployment in an accident, the side curtain airbag may not provide adequate protection for vehicle occupants which could increase the risk of injury or death.

Remedy

Owners of affected vehicles can contact their nearest Volkswagen dealership to have the curtain airbags replaced, free of charge.
