Due to a manufacturing defect, the high-voltage battery housing in affected vehicles have an insulation fault. This may cause the vehicle's battery to turn off when driving resulting in a loss of motive power and, in the event of water ingress a vehicle fire. Note: the following message will appear on the central display, "You can continue driving. High-voltage system. In order to avoid subsequent damage, have the issue checked by the Service Partner".
A loss of motive power and/or a vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders, and/or damage to property.
Owners of affected vehicles should immediately contact their preferred authorised MINI dealer or the BMW Australia Recall Hotline below to schedule an appointment to have the high-voltage battery housing checked for any leaks and, if required, replace any damaged parts, free of charge.
